When perusing the estate sale listings, I am often intrigued by the objects shown in the photos. Sometimes you get a strong and obvious sense of who that person was by looking at the stuff of their life. These photos are all from one estate that I visited this week. It is almost voyeuristic in a way, to see these objects, accumulated over a lifetime.
Possessions tell a story....how old someone was, if they were wealthy, if they were stylish and had good taste.
If they had children,
if they cooked,
or liked to entertain.
Did they love music?
And Christmas?
For me, this puts into perspective how little our stuff really means. Ultimately you die, and a bunch of strangers end up rummaging through your belongings with no regard. That part of it makes me sad, but the part where I am appreciating a special find, giving it a new life, peeking into a bit of history and imagining who that person was, feels really good too.
